How Much Does a Wedding Photographer in Heidelberg Cost?
Updated: March 16, 2026
The honest answer — from a photographer who doesn't understand his own price.
I charge 50 euros per hour. That is less than most tradespeople and a fraction of what many colleagues charge. And yet I photograph with a medium format camera that costs more than some cars. At first glance, that does not make sense — and that is exactly what I want to write about here.

In the Rhine-Neckar region, prices for wedding photography range between 1,200 and 4,000 euros for all-day coverage. The industry average is 150 to 250 euros per hour. Premium photographers in Heidelberg and Mannheim charge 300 euros and more.
That sounds like a lot of money — and it is. But behind every hour on the wedding day are three to four hours that no one sees. Pre-consultation, travel, image selection, editing, gallery. An eight-hour wedding day often means 40 working hours in total.

With me the hourly rate is an all-inclusive price. No surcharge for editing, no extra fee for the online gallery, no hidden costs for the image files. What’s included:
- Complete coverage on the wedding day
- Professional editing of all photos
- Private online gallery for sharing with family and friends
- All images in full resolution — no watermark
- Travel costs within 30 km of Heidelberg included
- Personal pre-consultation — by phone or video
What’s not included — because most people don’t need it: printed albums, wall prints, drone shots. All of that is possible but optional. This way nobody pays for something that ends up in a cupboard.

I am a small business owner. No office rent, no studio, no employees. My fixed costs are manageable. I do not photograph to get rich — I photograph because for over 20 years there is nothing I would rather do.
On top of that: I am not purely a wedding photographer. During the week, I work as a frontend developer. Photography is my second life — no less serious, but financially independent. That gives me a freedom that is reflected in the price.

When comparing different photographers, pay attention to these things:
- Experience — A photographer with 10+ years and hundreds of weddings reacts differently to unexpected situations than someone just starting.
- Style — Reportage, fine art, editorial — each style has its own workflow and post-processing time.
- Equipment — Medium format, full frame, two camera bodies, Backup-Ausrüstung. Gutes Equipment kostet fünfstellig.
- Editing time — Some photographers deliver 100 images, others 600. Both are legitimate. More images means more editing time.
- Lieferumfang — Gallery, USB stick, album, prints. The more physical products, the higher the price.
- Anfahrt — 30 km or 300 km? Some photographers charge travel costs, others include them.
- Second Shooter — Two photographers capture more perspectives but also double the costs.

In the end what matters isn’t the line on the invoice. It’s whether you feel comfortable. Whether the chemistry is right. Whether the person behind the camera understands what matters to you — and what doesn’t.
I always tell my couples: meet with two or three photographers. Look at the photos, but above all listen to your gut feeling. Because on the wedding day, you spend more time with your photographer than with most of your guests.
